Research project: Victorian ventilation system of the Houses of Parliament

Dr. Henrik Schoenefeldt, Senior Lecturer and AHRC Leadership Fellow at the University of Kent School of Architecture, is leading a pioneering research project on the Victorian ventilation system of the Houses of Parliament. He is working with the Restoration and Renewal Programme team and is investigating ways in which historic principles could be re-utilised as part of any future design. The research is funded through a grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and has yielded several publications.

Most recent publications include an article in the AA Files entitled ‘The Lost (First) Chamber of the House of Commons’ and a chapter in the book ‘Gothic Revival Worldwide’, published by Leuven University Press. Details can be found on the Kent School of Architecture website.
